Scotland has 830,000 disabled adults, one in seven of the population.
-
New legislation took effect in October 2004, giving disabled people the right to better access to services. Under the final stage of the 1995 Disability Discrimination Act, organisations and businesses, which provide goods or services to the public, must ensure that their service is reasonably accessible to disabled people. This may mean removing physical barriers to access, installing a lift or new toilets.
