For many people, Access is the first step towards living independently following a brain injury.
Through centre and community-based training, Access staff assist people to increase their independence and develop valuable skills.
Access is flexible and can be full or part-time. By improving confidence and developing individual strengths and abilities, staff help service users to identify strategies which will help them to move towards work. This could range from in-house pre-vocational training to supported volunteer work in the community.
The key elements of the programme are:
- Initial assessment
- Rehabilitation and training
- Education regarding brain injury
- Helping service users play an active role in the community
- Outdoor experience (team building skills)
Staff work with service users to help them improve thier communication skills, anger management techniques and confidence-building. Through a strong local network of support, we are able to assist service users to engage with and become active citizens in their community. Some Access service users may move on to Momentum's Pathways programme, which helps them to gain the skills they need to return to work. Others will decide to go on to further education or undertake volunteer work.
