Momentum's Work Matters service provides vocational rehabilitation and training to long-term unemployed people with mental health difficulties in Renfrewshire.
Work Matters helps service users to gain skills and qualifications and to secure employment, encouraging them to move towards social and economic independence.
The service is based in the Charleston Centre in Paisley, a modern, purpose-built Mental Health Resource Centre. The programme provides skills training and practical work experience leading to industry-recognised qualifications and offers a variety of courses including the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL), Equal Skills, and Social Research.
Each service user follows an individually tailored programme to prepare them for the job market. Structured, hands-on training is provided on site in the Work Matters general offices and is combined with work placements offered by local employers which enables service users to acquire the skills they need to enter mainstream employment.
Momentum's specialist staff offer support throughout the programme, including help with stress management, assertiveness, communications skills, and problem solving. Service users are also encouraged to better understand the issues surrounding mental health and the workplace. A Placement Officer provides service users with practical support in their search for employment.
