Momentum's Assist programme provides Scotland-wide rehabilitation to assist people with spinal cord injuries to rebuild their lives.
Assist is based in the Queen Elizabeth National Spinal Injuries Unit, at Glasgow's Southern General Hospital - the only unit of its kind in Scotland.
By using specially adapted computers and other forms of assistive technology, the programme encourages disabled people to develop Information Technology skills that help them to increase their independence and quality of life.
Assist sources computers, which are adapted to 'learn' the communication style of the individual. For example, this may allow someone paralysed from the neck down to operate a computer by speaking into a headset. Skills in desk top publishing, word processing, website design and graphic design are all available.
The programme also provides an innovative National Outreach Support Programme, supporting patients from throughout Scotland in their own homes after they are discharged from hospital.
